"Central Chile is one of the few areas in the world that is subject to a Mediterranean type of climate. It supports a remarkable diversity of species as well as a high level on endemism of plants and birds. Central Chile is considered to be as a world biodiversity hotspot of floristic diversity with some 2,400 recorded species. During this journey for the naturalist we will visit three different eco-regions: the Andes with its spectacular landscapes and its wildlife especially adapted to the altitude and the widely fluctuating temperatures; the Chilean Matorral with a visit to La Campana National Park to discover its sclerophyllous (hard leaved) forests and endemic Chilean palms, following in Darwin's footsteps, who explored this area in the 1830s."
